Travel interests: Outdoors, hiking, mountains, old buildings and architecture, interesting-looking cities, different cultures. Not interested in resorts and tour buses and catered vacations and don't need fancy accommodations. Places on my bucket list: Prague, Chiang Mai, Istanbul, Lebanon, Israel, all over Africa, all over South/Central America (really like the ancient cities there), New Zealand, Samoa, Hawaii, Moscow, Croatia, Iceland, many more but that's just to give you an idea of places I'm interested in. Climate: If I had to choose between humidity and freezing my metaphorical nuts off, I'd choose the cold. But climate is not my biggest concern--if somewhere is cheap and beautiful I don't care. International travel experience: Guatemala. Aside from Guatemala City I loved it. I stayed in hostels, did a (guided) night hike up a volcano, and rode chicken buses. Prior research: I've been using Skyscanner and Flight Matrix to check out options. It seems like a lot of the cheapest destinations during this time period are in the Caribbean and Central and South America.
